Review
This album is by far most known for being sampled in a variety of different songs by artists including but not limited to, MF DOOM, Tyler, Lupe Fiasco, Logic, Wiz Khalifa, Rick Ross, and the list goes on, but save to say it's made its rounds in the hip hop sampling scene. There's a reason that all these artists all gravitated towards this album, because it's incredible. It's so funky, so jazzy, so groovy, it's a perfect intersection of all these different styles, with a french twist. To be fair the most french part of this is the singing, which is all in French, but also pulls from a more almost operatic place at times, and not falling into the paradigm that America's funk at the time often did. The complexities even in the most simplistic sections are stunning, the drums on here are just, chefs kiss, they really move the songs along in the perfect way. The variety here is also super notable, the amount of different styles they incorporate is as impressive as it is satisfying. Overall, it's an album that is extremely deserving of it's praise, and one that really just breaks the mold in any way it can.
