How Long Can It Last

by Jeanines

Album cover for How Long Can It Last

Review

This is the indie sunshine pop we need in this day and age. Sometimes you just need short little treats of catchy songs with some bouncy guitar and hooky verses. That's the exact space that Jeanines have carved for themselves over these past few years and something that they don't stop with their latest album "How Long Can It Last". They have a certain mellow twee energy that is reminiscent of The Cardigans with a hint of the moodiness of The Cranberries. At their most chipper they have tracks like "Coaxed A Storm" and "Wrong Direction" which play on the general cheeriness of their sound. But they get more subdued on tracks like "What You Do" and "You Can't Get It Back". These aren't going to be getting on any sunday morning playlists, but I wouldn't rule out saturday nights. I think sometimes they get a bit one-note over the 22 minutes that this album spans. I think that length is perfectly well planned for an album like this, if it was much longer I think the more monotonous aspects of their sound might come to the forefront. But as it stands this is certainly a quality album that with be appreiated by those who love 90s/00s female-led indie pop with catchy hooks.
