Review

You need a break from the hectic and stressing ordeal that is life. No matter how good life is, sometimes all you need is a break. This album is the break of your day. It's the satisfying crack of a soft paper thin wafer before a meal. It's your limp body falling onto your bed after a particularly long day. It's a positively positive collection of songs that all seem to work together, but also are certainly unique in their flare and extravagance, or lack there of. If something is certain about these songs is that they're very soft, but not in a weak way, in a way that shows strength in softness. Blending elements that can be more abrasive, like the grooves that in many respects could be considered harsh, especially on track 3, they have these quick, jazzy, creative groove to them, but they're surrounded in a way by this vibe that makes it feel like just an everyday sort of thing. It makes them softer, significantly, but doesn't look down to them in any way whatsoever. I think that's true throughout this album, there are all these elements sort of vying for the top, but none of them are quite given that spot. Sometimes this can make the composition seems too full, or crowded, but not quite on this album. They combat this by giving each element the same respect and power if it wants it.

There really isn't one part that is by far the best. The singing is very very good, but the drums are incredible throughout as well, and the horns, and synths that appear throughout add so much to each song their in. Nothing would be quite as good without each other element. There is a perfect amount of chemistry between each of these instruments and despite them blending, they still manage to be stand out among each other. It's clearly easy music. I call it this because it's just so easy to listen to, you can dissect it all and recognize the merits in each part of the song, but through all that, it's still just as easy to digest. It feels so good, yet so wrong to like this album. Of course you like it, because it's great, and calming and, simply, easy. But perhaps you feel like it's too easy to really give it praise, it's not pushing many boundaries, but yet, it's pushing so many. Mostly pushing your of boundary of respect for music that is, easy. At least, that's what I thought, but maybe I'm a contrarian. Either way, this album is great, and shows an amount of talent clearly respectable, with thoughtful and thorough instrumentation, and blending of styles all while keeping a familiar aura of calm throughout.
